13 Sep THE RUGBY DASH 2019 – 5th & 6th October
The Inaugural Great Rugby Cycle 2019 covered 1133 miles in March 2019 from John O’Groats to Land’s End in support of the My Name’5 Doddie Foundation.
The Great Rugby Cycle 2020 will cover over 1000 miles in an anti-clockwise direction around Ireland leaving the Royal Belfast Golf Club 5th April returning eleven days later just in time to host a rugby legends golf event at The Royal Belfast Golf Club on Thursday 16th April.
The peloton will be joined along the route by rugby legends and sporting stars all supporting to raise awareness and funds for the My Name’5 Doddie Foundation.
As a warm-up to the April 2020 event, some of the group will be completing ‘The Rugby Dash’Cycling from Mizen Head to Malin Head, covering 400 miles in 36 hours, ‘The Rugby Dash’leaves Mizen Head on Saturday 5th October at 6am, the group plan to arrive at Malin Head by 6pm on Sunday 6th October.
My Name’5 Doddie Foundation:
Doddie Weir, the former Scotland and British and Irish Lions rugby player, revealed he was suffering from Motor Neurone Disease in 2016. From the outset, Doddie has been driven to help fellow sufferers and seek ways to further research into this, yet, incurable disease.
My Name’5 Doddie Foundation was launched in November 2017 and its aims are simple; to raise funds to aid research into the causes of MND and investigate potential cures and to support this affected by this devastating disease.

The Mizen to Malin Challenge is a ‘warm’ up. Leaving Mizen Head at 6am on Saturday 5th October, the challenge is to cycle 400 miles to MaliN HeaD within 36 hours.
The group will meet in Belfast 4th October and travel to Mizen Head ready for the early start 5th October:
The cost of £100 includes:
– Travel to Mizen Head and from Malin Head back to Belfast. – Two nights’ accommodation.
– All meal plans during the cycle
