CIYMS VS INSTONIANS PREVIEW

CIYMS VS INSTONIANS PREVIEW

A fixture steeped in history. Two teams who were dominant forces in Ulster Rugby for decades who now find themselves in Championship 1 with a rivalry that is undiminished. Always the biggest crowd of the season at Belmont and a lively lunch guaranteed. And we are proud to have Land Rover as our match sponsor.

Instonians sit third in the league having had to abandon last week’s game against Portadown due to a referee concussion. Both games against them were competitive last year – Paul Marshall was the difference at Shaw’s Bridge with 3 scores, but CI were only minutes away from a major victory in the return at Belmont . Our visitors are always a handful and are setting their sights on promotion with numerous new signings but we have shown ourselves capable of scoring plenty of tries in recent games and will approach the game in a positive mindset.

Elsewhere the league is taking a familiar shape with Dromore still top and Ballyclare who edged them at Barban Hill last week chasing hard. Instonians have a game in hand and will look to close the gap , hopefully not on Saturday. Four teams are still looking for their first win – including Portadown, Enniskillen and Cooke so both ends of the league will be a scrap once again this season. Saturday sees Carrick host Clogher Valley, Cooke take on leaders Dromore at Shaws Bridge, and Grosvenor visit Enniskillen.. None of them easy to call.

CI 3s make the short trip to Civil Service on Saturday .We wish Richard Moorehead and the boys well and look forward to catching up at the social at Saturday tea time.
