CIYMS Youth Cricket

All in all, it was another strong showing from CIYMS Youth Cricket. Throughout the season, our youth members demonstrated a sustained level of dedication that was ahead of their time. Awarded silverware was well-deserved and there are many positives to take into the upcoming 2019 season. Listed below are the honours achieved by CIYMS Youth Cricket, including our Under 15, 13, 11 and Kwik Cricket squads.

Under 15

The CIYMS Under 15 XI ended the 2018 season at a very respectable position of number 3 in the Under 15 Division 1 League. The season got off to a great start, beating out rivals CSNI by way of a masterful bowling performance. Unfortunately, due to weather interruptions and holiday commitments throughout the season, only 5 out of 8 games were played. Towards the end of the year and with second position in our sights, a bitter to defeat at home to Donacloney cemented our third place position.

Our Under 15s performed exceptionally well in the Graham Cup, defeating Muckamore by a decisive 7 wicket margin in the semis. Although having been handed a defeat from Instonians in the final, positives can be drawn from the fact that 9 of this young team will be available for the 2019 season.

Under 13

CIYMS managed to secure the Under 13 Division 1 league at the end of the 2018 season. Tallying up 5 wins with just 2 defeats, it was clear to see that this squad was a force to be reckoned with. For the first time in the club’s history, CIYMS Under 13 XI were able to clinch the elusive John Memorial Trophy when they defeated rivals CSNI in the final by a 6 wicket margin. Although already impressive, the fact that CSNI had been unbeaten up until that point made this victory that little bit sweeter.

Yet another final was reached by our youth cricket members, and that was that of the Under 13 Banoge Cup. As a result of beating Derriaghy and Cliftonville by 7 and 9 wickets respectively, our Under 13 XI met Instonians in the final. Although ultimately losing the game, we were able to put up an impressive batting score of 99 and came close to removing key Instonian players on several occasions.

It should be noted that the CIYMS Under 13 B team also made significant progress throughout the season. The number of games played left a little to be desired, however, by securing their first win and demonstrating an ongoing motivation to play, our Under 13 Bs made a successful contribution to CIYMS Cricket Club.

Under 11

CIYMS Under 11 XI endured a difficult season and managed to clinch 5th place in the Charlie Beverland Under 11 Division 1 League. The best of our wins came against Muckamore, where we chased 105 in 15 overs and subsequently won the match by a comfortable 9 wicket margin.

Unfortunately, CIYMS Under 11 were significantly affected by the birthday age limits in the Quoile Cup. This meant that many key players in the squad were ineligible to play. Upon reaching the semi-final, we were defeated at Lisburn by 8 wickets. Although frustrating, the positives are that this squad is packed with potential, and several players representing the Northern Knights over the summer is a testament to this.
